This makes it the third most successful video game Kickstarter campaign ever, just behind Shenmue III and Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night. The team was originally asking for just $500,000 to get the project off the ground, and $1 million to bring it to consoles. Both goals were met in next to no time, meaning that Eiyuden Chronicle will be coming to Xbox Series X and Xbox One (along with PC, PS5, PS4, and "Nintendo's next generation console," whatever that turns out to be) in 2022. The numerous stretch goals met will allow for a ton of extra content - everything from additional characters and locations to new modes and mini-games, and even full voice acting, an orchestral score, and a separate companion game.Ä®iyuden Chronicle is headed up by Yoshitaka Murayama and Junko Kawano, two Suikoden veterans (Murayama was co-creator of the series) who haven't worked together since the original Suikoden on PlayStation all the way back in 1995. The game is set to be a return to the golden age of JRPGs, and the gameplay clips on the Kickstarter page will look extremely familiar to anyone who has ever played a Suikoden game, if a whole lot prettier. The team also has the blessing of Castlevania legend Koji Igarashi. He too used Kickstarter to deliver a spiritual successor to his previous work with the wonderful Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, and Murayama's crew will be looking to learn from him about the benefits and pitfalls of crowd-funding. Like Suikoden, Eiyuden Chronicle is a turn-based RPG where recruiting characters from a vast pool of available options and developing a base of operations to house them all forms a main gameplay pillar. The Suikoden games each had 108 recruitable heroes, and between the 'Hundred Heroes' subtitle and the addition of ten more characters via stretch goals, it looks like Eiyuden Chronicle will have even more.Äevelopment time is estimated at around two-and-a-half years, with launch projected for late 2022.
